Passport
You can apply for a Dutch passport at the municipality. Make an appointment for this. You pay the costs at the appointment. You can collect your passport personally after 5 working days without an appointment at the reception desk.
How long does the application take?
- After 5 working days you can collect the passport at the reception of the town hall. Exceptions to this period are an alien's passport or a missing travel document.
- Need an urgent application? In principle, requests before 2 p.m. can be picked up the next working day from 11 a.m. You pay extra for an urgent application.
Validity
- An adult passport is valid for ten years
- A passport for children and young people under 18 is valid for five years
Children
- Children of all ages must have their own passport or ID card when traveling abroad.
- Children from 14 years old must have their own passport or ID card in order to identify themselves, even if they are not traveling abroad.
- Children under the age of 18 require written permission from both parents or those who have parental authority to apply.

Duty of identification in healthcare
Parents must have a valid ID for their children when they go to a healthcare provider. The duty of identification in healthcare has no age limit and applies from birth.
Lost or stolen
You can report your stolen or lost passport to us when applying for a new passport. You no longer have to file a report with the police. Always report a stolen or lost passport to us so that no one else can use your data, to prevent identity fraud.

Business passport
Do you travel a lot? Then you can also apply for a business passport. This is thicker than a normal passport, namely 64 pages instead of 32 pages.
